Introduction to the Speech Language Theologist.

 The Speech-Language Theologist

Welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to click on my blog! Allow me to briefly introduce myself and tell you about why I have decided to take the time to start this blog.

The primary reason I am starting this blog is out of love for theology, church history, and bioethics. This blog serves as an outlet for my internal thought life; I often find myself pontificating about my varied interests, so I thought, "why not write some thoughts down!" That being the case, this blog will likely swing wildly between topics that I am personally interested in, some of which I am qualified to write about, some of which I am definitely not. I have no idea how often I will post something, but I have marked out some time each Saturday to work on this blog, so expect posts occasionally.

What will we cover?

Christian Theology

Theology is the study of the nature of God and religious truth; so, it is a pretty broad category. The theology I take a particular interest in is what I like to call "Imago Dei" theology, or "image of God" theology. Working in the medical field has brought to my attention the need for having a robust understanding of what the human person is. If we are to truly care for ourselves and others, we must first know who we are. Additional areas of interest for me include sacramental theology, eastern theology, and most specifically, the works of the Ante-Nicene fathers.

Christian History

Christian History is a subject that is often grievously neglected by modern Christians. If we want to understand the modern church and where it is headed, we must first understand the ancient church and where we came from. My area of interest is primarily the ante-Nicene period (70 A.D. to 325 A.D.). Ante-Nicene meaning the period prior to the Ecumenical council of Nicaea. Notable figures in this time period include Polycarp of Smyrna, Ignatius of Antioch, and Irenaeus of Lyons, just to name a few.

Bioethics

Bioethics is a philosophical discipline that deals with moral issues related to biology. For us, bioethics will be treated as a theological sub-category that deals with the question of, "what is the human person." A fancier way to say this would be human ontology. Like I said above, having a correct perspective on what a human being is is essential to the way we interact with ourselves and others. Topics included in this category are abortion, sexual ethic, and end of life issues.

Thanks for dialing in to my blog! I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts and interacting with others on these issues. Until next time,

- Jacob Flesher
